Lucetting is a form of cord-making. It fits into the spool knitting family of crafts. Lucets use a multi-pronged fork tool to knot successive loops onto each other, forming a continuous cord. There is archeological evidence for historical tools at least as early as the 5th century made from bone, horn, and antler, that are posited to be lucets, though due to the simplicity of the technique's mechanics this is difficult to verify. Our lucets are of a modern 20th-21st century design.
Material: Our lucets are made from locally sourced plywood made from 100% Australian renewable radiata pine.
Size: We currently make two different shaped lucets. Long lucets with a distinct handle below the fork, and shorter Stout lucets that fit comfortably in the palm of most adult hands.
Designs: Our lucets are made using a laser cutter, allowing us to shallowly etch them with highly precise designs. We currently have designs based on Viking Age designs by Jonas Lau Markussen, and depictions of SCA Heraldry in Lochac. We release new designs from time to time, so check out the product gallery.
Custom Design: If you would like a lucet with your own custom design, please contact us at bearislandtraders@gmail.com.
How to: We are currently working on our own Introduction to Lucetting video, but there are many videos already available. We recommend How to use a Lucet Fork by Heart Hook Home. Her video is a visually clear introuction into using a lucet, with some discussion based on her experience in crochet.
